First, What Is Depuffing?
Depuffing means reducing fluid buildup and inflammation in the face - most commonly around the eyes, cheeks, and jawline - to look more lifted, sculpted, and awake. When the face looks puffy or has undereye dark circles, it's because interstitial fluid - excess water in the spaces between skin cells - has collected in soft facial tissue.1 The process of clearing it is called lymphatic drainage - and unlike your circulatory system, the lymphatic system has no pump of its own. It depends entirely on outside devices to move fluid through its vessels.2
The best depuffing tools do two things: actively move existing fluid out of the lymphatic vessels, and use cold to constrict blood vessels and prevent new fluid from building up. That’s why ice rollers became the go-to home solution - but they lose cold fast, require manual pressure on vessels for drainage, and can harbor bacteria if not cleaned properly.
To find a facial depuffing device that actually works, we tested the two leading depuffing wands that claim to be more effective than traditional ice rollers - Dermaflash Cool and TheraFace Depuffing Wand - and consulted Shay Bradby, licensed esthetician (LE) and skincare expert. Read on to find out the winner!

Dermaflash Cool vs. TheraFace Depuffing Wand: Our Test Results
To see which depuffing tool actually reduces puffiness and delivers visible results, our editor, Jamie (38), tested Dermaflash Cool and TheraFace Depuffing Wand back-to-back over 4 weeks. We then evaluated them on results, design and materials, and price.

Test Results: Dermaflash Cool Wins with Immediate, Visible Depuffing
Depuffing is surprisingly simple. The entire routine takes about 5 minutes, and for best results, Bradby recommends doing it each morning - particularly after waking, when fluid has had all night to settle.
Jamie started with Dermaflash Cool. She glided the copper dome along her under-eye area and jawline using slow, outward strokes - the way Bradby recommends to encourage fluid toward the lymph nodes at the sides of the neck. The results were immediately noticeable.

Puffiness under her eyes visibly reduced within minutes, and her jawline looked more defined. She described it as a "5-minute lymphatic massage." "My face looks lifted and awake. It's like I slept eight hours even when I didn't," she added.
The sonic vibration - high-frequency pulses delivered through the copper dome - felt gentle but purposeful against the skin. "You can feel it actually moving fluid." Unlike TheraFace, which relies solely on cold and heat, Dermaflash Cool's sonic vibration physically pumps fluid through the lymphatic vessels.
Bradby, our skincare expert, cites the sonic vibration paired with copper as the main reason for its effectiveness. "The vibration creates a high-frequency pumping effect on the lymphatic vessels that manual massage can't replicate," she says. "And copper stays cooler longer while releasing antimicrobial ions - a combination aluminum simply can't offer."
After two weeks of daily morning use, Jamie was consistently waking up looking more rested - even on nights she slept poorly.
Two weeks later, Jamie tried the TheraFace Depuffing Wand.
The experience? Underwhelming. Without sonic vibration, the drainage work fell on her - how slowly she moved it, how much pressure she applied, how well she followed the lymphatic pathways. "Some mornings I thought it helped a little. Other mornings I honestly couldn't tell I'd used it," she noted.
The heat element was a particular issue. Rather than feeling refreshing, it left the under-eye area flushed. "It made me look more awake for about two minutes, and then I just looked red," said Jamie. "I won't be using it again."

Bradby echoed these findings: "Heat dilates blood vessels, which allows more fluid to move into the tissue - the opposite of what you want. TheraFace relies on the user to do the drainage work."
Design & Materials: Dermaflash Cool Wins With Premium Design & Materials

Dermaflash Cool felt premium the moment Jamie picked it up. The product is sleek and easy to hold. "The dome feels like it was made for my face," said Jamie, our tester. The Cool is ergonomically shaped, with a spherical copper dome that contours to the curves of the eye socket and jawline.
Dermaflash Cool's copper cooling dome was effective and comfortable. The material is engineered to stay cold longer and work actively with the skin, with features like sonic vibration calibrated for the delicate under-eye area.
Bradby, our skincare expert, says the copper dome not only drains puffiness, but also supports skin health. "Copper naturally releases ions that neutralize bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact," she says. That reduces the bacterial exposure that can inflame the delicate under-eye area, reducing puffiness long-term. "It also has exceptional thermal conductivity, meaning it stays cooler for longer - something aluminum simply doesn't offer."

TheraFace Depuffing Wand also has a cooling tip, but the tip is aluminum and doesn't contour to the eye socket the same way. "It's kind of like a metal spoon with a motor," said Jamie. After using Dermaflash, "it feels flat." Aluminum has less thermal conductivity than copper - meaning it also warms up quicker during use, limiting its effectiveness.

The TheraFace has both cold and heat modes. Our tester only saw results with the cold setting - and even then, inconsistently.
Price: It's a Tie
Both tools are in a similar price range - Dermaflash Cool at $149 with TCD’s discount ($175 without), and TheraFace Depuffing Wand at $170.
The Dermaflash Cool does include HYDRAFLASH Active Cocooning Serum, which helps the device glide more easily while boosting circulation.
"Before depuffing, I recommend applying a serum or primer to help the device glide smoothly and amplify the lymphatic drainage effect," says Bradby. With the TheraFace Depuffing Wand, you'll need to purchase that separately.
Final Verdict: Dermaflash Cool Is the Clear Winner
After two weeks of back-to-back testing and input from licensed esthetician Shay Bradby, the results were clear: Dermaflash Cool is the best sonic depuffing tool on the market.

The results speak for themselves - visibly reduced puffiness, brighter under-eyes, and a more sculpted jawline in just five minutes. From the sonic vibration to the copper dome's sustained cooling and antimicrobial protection, everything about the Dermaflash experience feels intentional.
"If you're dealing with daily puffiness, Dermaflash Cool is the one I trust," says Bradby. "It's the only tool that actively drains existing fluid while preventing new buildup - you can see and feel the difference after just one use."
