Up to 40% of men experience premature ejaculation (PE)1,2 - in fact it's the most common sexual issue among men. The impact goes beyond the bedroom - and beyond him. PE is closely tied to performance anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship strain2 - yet most couples never talk about it.
When our TCD tester couple (we'll call them Chris and Dani) went looking for help, they found plenty of online options promising to help him last longer, from prescription pills to numbing sprays. But what actually works - for him and her - and why?
We tested and reviewed the three most popular online options to help men last longer - Rugiet Go Long, Hims Sex Rx + Climax Control, and Promescent Delay Spray. Chris tested each one; Dani reported her experience. And Shellie Warren, a certified intimacy coach, lends her expert opinion. We found one clear winner - read on to find out which.

What to Look For In an Option to Help Men Last Longer
PE comes down to two things: how your body regulates the ejaculation reflex, and what's happening between the two of you.
PE is almost never a one-person problem, says Warren: “He’s probably not going to want to talk about what’s going on; that causes his partner to feel shut out. Now we’ve got two people who are disconnected sexually, emotionally, and relationally.”

That's why the most effective options work on the reflex itself. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) like paroxetine and fluoxetine boost serotonin in the brain and spinal cord, enhancing the signaling that delays climax.3 Numbing sprays take a different route: a local anesthetic applied directly to the penis that dulls sensation so you simply feel less.4 The numbing effect can transfer to your partner if the spray isn’t fully absorbed.
There's also the erection side of things. ED commonly coexists with PE - in one survey, about three-quarters of men who met the criteria for PE also had ED.5 An option that handles both is doing more of the job.
In short: look for an option that preserves sensation for both partners, can't transfer to your partner, and supports erections too. How do Rugiet, Hims, and Promescent compare? Let's find out.
Options to Help Men Last Longer, Compared

Formulation:
Rugiet Wins With Clinically-Backed Ingredients That Treat the Cause

Both Rugiet Go Long and Hims Sex Rx + Climax Control take a dual approach to PE. Each pairs an SSRI - which raises serotonin to delay climax - with tadalafil, a PDE5 inhibitor that improves blood flow to the penis and supports erections. In other words - both target PE and the ED that often accompanies it.
But Rugiet Go Long is the only option that contains paroxetine - the SSRI with the strongest clinical evidence for helping men last longer. In multiple trials, paroxetine delayed ejaculation more than any other SSRI, increasing time to climax 800% over baseline.6 It's also the only one of the three that's both systemic and on-demand: a dissolvable tablet you take only when you need it. Hims Sex Rx + Climax Control uses fluoxetine, which has weaker clinical evidence for PE - and has to be taken every day.
Promescent Delay Spray is in a different category: a 10% lidocaine spray applied directly to the penis, with no internal mechanism and no erection support. It can delay climax by numbing the surface, but it does nothing to address the serotonin signaling that causes PE - and if it hasn't fully dried, it transfers to your partner4 - meaning she goes numb too.
Rugiet's paroxetine-plus-tadalafil combination makes it the most proven option for lasting longer - and one that doesn't make either of you feel less.
Effectiveness:
Rugiet Wins With Climax Control That Keeps Sensation for Both Partners

When it comes to lasting longer, a couple needs two things: climax delay and sex that still feels like sex.
Rugiet Go Long is taken at need - each dose should be taken at least 1 hour before sex, and will stay effective for up to 36 hours. Hims is a daily pill that's meant to improve time-to-climax whenever you have sex. Promescent should be applied directly to the penis about 10 minutes before the encounter, and the numbing effect lasts about 30 minutes.
What sets Rugiet apart is how complete the experience feels - for both of them. According to Chris, by the first weekend he felt "in control without feeling checked out." That translated to “more connecting, satisfying sex - for both of us.”
There was a confidence shift, too. Go Long, he says, gave him his swagger back - "I know I can deliver now."
With Hims, on the other hand, the daily SSRI “took a few weeks to kick in.” Dani noticed that Chris lasted longer, but seemed checked out, and he stopped initiating. Fluoxetine can dampen libido.7
Promescent delayed climax - but decreased pleasure. The spray "fixed one problem and caused a new one," says Chris: he couldn't feel much, and neither could she. For Dani, the spray-and-wait ritual was a mood killer in the moment, and the numbness afterward was worse.
Bottom line: Rugiet delivered climax control and kept sex feeling good - for both of them.
Spontaneity & Side Effects:
Rugiet Wins With On-Demand Dosing

In a relationship, timing is everything - look for an option that's ready when you are.
Rugiet Go Long stands out as the most flexible option. It's an on-demand tablet taken an hour or more before sex, with a 36-hour window - so you take it Friday and it lasts the whole weekend.
Hims Sex Rx + Climax Control is a traditional daily pill, which means continuous SSRI exposure - whether or not you plan to have sex. Promescent needs a 10-minute dry time, has to be reapplied every time, and carries partner-transfer risk.
Chris experienced no side effects on Rugiet or Promescent during testing. Side effects of on-demand paroxetine and tadalafil are mild and rare - think headache or upset stomach.3
Continuous SSRI exposure, on the other hand - like with Hims - carries risk of more severe side effects, including decreased libido - like Chris experienced - nausea, weight gain, and vision changes.8 Promescent's side effect is the product itself: numbness, for him and sometimes for her.4
Both pills feature similar mechanisms, but Rugiet is our preference for this combination. A stronger serotonin reuptake inhibitor that you only need to use on-demand. That means spontaneity for the two of you, and fewer side effects than with a daily SSRI.
Price & Value:
It's a Tie Between Rugiet & Hims
Who wins on cost per dose?
Hims Sex Rx + Climax Control is the cheapest per dose at $1.63 - but that adds up with daily use, whether you have sex or not. Rugiet Go Long comes in at $2.10 per dose with code GOLONG15 - and you only take it when you need it. Promescent is the most expensive at $27 for a 20-spray bottle; at 3-10 sprays per encounter, that's $5-13 every time you have sex.
Considering Rugiet's clinical evidence and on-demand flexibility, we feel it's the best value - especially for couples who don't want the commitment of a daily SSRI.
The Overall Winner: Rugiet Go Long
Which option is best for your relationship? After testing all three, we recommend the one that 1) keeps sensation for both partners, 2) works on demand instead of daily, and 3) boosts confidence while helping him last longer. And that's Rugiet Go Long.
Warren, our expert in couples' intimacy, agrees: “I recommend Rugiet Go Long. It takes away the anxiety and makes sex exciting and spontaneous again.”
Chris put it simply: “Go Long saved our relationship.”
